This is a truly unique and exceptional piece of audio equipment: a fully serviced and recapped DBX 160VU Compressor/Limiter, housed in a stunning wooden enclosure. The DBX 160VU is a legendary piece of equipment, known for its versatility and high-quality sound processing capabilities.

The 160VU meter provides a visual indication of the gain reduction, allowing for precise control of the compression effect.
The limiter section of this unit is equally impressive, capable of providing fast and powerful limiting, ensuring that your audio never goes above a certain level. This makes it an excellent tool for mastering, as well as for protecting your audio from clipping and distortion.
The wooden enclosure is not just a cosmetic upgrade, but also adds to the unit's warmth and character. The recapping and servicing of this unit ensures that it is in excellent working condition, with all of its components replaced or restored to like-new condition. This means that you can expect reliable and consistent performance from this unit, with no concerns about aging or wear and tear.
Overall, this DBX 160VU Compressor/Limiter is a rare and valuable piece of audio equipment. Its versatility, high-quality sound processing, and vintage charm make it an excellent addition to any recording studio or audio production setup.
Pros of buying a wooden DBX 160VU compressor 163 limiter (recapped and serviced):1. Historical value: The DBX 160VU is a classic compressor and limiter that has been used by numerous audio engineers in the past. Owning a piece of audio history can be appealing to many musicians and producers.
2. Improved performance: The unit has been recapped and serviced, which means that any damaged or worn out components have been replaced. This should result in improved performance and reliability compared to an unserviced unit.
3. Warm sound: Wooden enclosures are often associated with a warmer sound compared to metal or plastic enclosures. This can be desirable for certain types of music, such as rock or pop.
4. Rareness: The wooden DBX 160VU is a rare piece of equipment. Its scarcity can add to its value and desirability.
Cons of buying a wooden DBX 160VU compressor 163 limiter (recapped and serviced):1. Limited features: The DBX 160VU is a vintage compressor and limiter with limited features compared to modern digital processors. It may not offer the same level of control or flexibility as more modern units.
2. Maintenance: Vintage equipment can require more maintenance than modern equipment. The recapped and serviced unit should be in better shape than an unserviced unit, but it may still require regular servicing to keep it in good working order.
3. Price: Vintage equipment, especially if it is in good condition and has been recapped and serviced, can be expensive. The price of the DBX 160VU may be higher than a modern digital compressor or limiter with similar features.
4. Size and weight: The DBX 160VU is a large, heavy piece of equipment. This can make it difficult to transport or store compared to smaller, lighter modern units.
Conclusion:The DBX 160VU is a classic compressor and limiter with a warm sound and historical value. Its recapped and serviced version should offer improved performance and reliability compared to an unserviced unit. However, it is a vintage piece of equipment with limited features, higher maintenance requirements, and a higher price tag. Ultimately, whether or not to buy the DBX 160VU will depend on your specific needs and preferences as a musician or producer. If you value historical value, a warm sound, and the experience of using vintage equipment, and are willing to pay a premium for these features, then the DBX 160VU may be a worthwhile investment. If you need more features, flexibility, and a lower price point, then a modern digital compressor or limiter may be a better choice.
Unit for sale is in excellent working order recapped power supply and looks sounds fantastic.
Not quite as aggressive as the 160VU or 162vu, I would compare these units more to the 165's albeit much smaller and less expensive.
These units sound incredible on bass and electric guitar and surprisingly very nice on vocals warm, soft, and grainy classic Dbx sound.
