Most of them get the scanning part right, but the filters they engage sound awful. This one works great. It works very well directly in the mike path too, and yes you can use it as a mic pre. Once it's done setting it's filters, it goes right back to unity gain and saves the setting.

You hold the start button and let go, it goes through the automatic gain raising etc i've had all of the others. The Roland is very good, quiet and sweet sounding. Are scanning equalizers.

Required to make these things stable. On top of that, it literally sets itself.
