It has such a rich buttery analog sound and i've done some great stereo panning effects with it as well as great sync'd rhythmic tracks. Run loops, synths, voice or entire mixes through this and filter them in stereo or dual mono. Run anything through it keys, guitars, drums, whole mixes. It sounds great.

What is the Mutator has an analog voltage controlled filter CF for each of its two channels, which can create synth like filter sweeps on any sound source that is fed into the unit. These have four waveform, which create filter sweeps in or out of time with the music.

Midi version in excellent condition. There is no patch memory, but that's OK. The circuitry is analog too. Midi and CV inputs for syncing.

The power socket is a bit loose, but it doesn't affect the unit. It is the sound used by daft punk and has also been used by fanboy slim, future sound of London, speech mode, and radio head. There is a great implementation of midi control on the Mutator. In gate mode, the filter is either on or off, and the filter can also be controlled by the on board Los.

The two filters are identical and totally independent of each other. Control the filter cutoff from your sequencer by hitting notes on the keyboard. It has two great resonant filters with cutoff, envelope follower, and an LIFO with 4 waveform types that can be linked or inverted. I've held onto this piece for the last 9 years for good reason.

The Mutator is a machine that's meant to be grabbed and played with live while either going to tape or live on stage. The LIFO can also be midi synced to your music it's a little tricky though. The CF filters have their own envelopes and there is a useful LIFO for nice sweeping or pulsing effects.
