The inputs and outputs are balanced, you get either a inch TRS jack or the standard XLR for each. These aren't common names of jacks on the back processors you're used. Next to the expanded controls are NOISE GATE. The de-easier function is pretty straight-forward.

The knobs to the far right of front panel are MASTER OUTPUT controls for left and channels. This circuit is called a detector. The INPUT control sets the sensitivity of compressor by adjusting threshold from 40dB to 10dB. Most are four and eight track rooms, some sixteen.

The PEAK LIMITER/CLIPPER control is just to the right of expanded controls. There are more multi-track production rooms in radio today than ever before. This external DC voltage is derived from a circuit that reads the input signal then converts it to control. The next knob we get to play with is the DE-ESSER LEVEL control. Instead of using the audio input to control VCA, MDC uses an external DC voltage VCA. At 10dB, only levels above 10dB are compressed.

Noise gates if you've got 'em, use 'em. Now, before we get into what the DETECTOR LOOP and GATE KEY IN jacks do, let's explain this detector is. Turning our attention to the back panel we find two left channel inputs, outputs, right and outputs. The unit may be used in an unbalanced setup.

The THRESHOLD control sets the level at which expanded starts working. At the lowest setting, attack is very quick and punchy with compression level high. The detector circuit for the compressor and expanded is accessed via DETECTOR LOOP jacks. The more you crank it, the pre-set high frequency band is suppressed.

Both the ATTACK and RELEASE controls also have an internal Auto Adjust feature which analyzes dynamics of incoming signal fine tunes two continuously. The other three belong to the noise gate, limiter, and exciter. The frequencies to be excited are determined by the FREQUENCY control setting. The HOLD time sets the it takes for noise gate to close once audio drops below threshold.

By sending the music through inputs and outputs of MDC patching voice track DETECTOR LOOP, ducking can be done automatically. At the far left of front panel are controls for compressor section. You get an INPUT control, a RATIO and controls for ATTACK RELEASE times. Patch your mike into the GATE KEY INPUT and MDC becomes a voice activated noise gate that opens when you talk.

Highs are detected then boosted an amount set by the LEVEL control. The LIMITER LINK jack simply let's you connect several Medics together and have one limiter control the others. All in one box. You get what you would expect from a dynamics processor and more.

With proper settings, pauses between words become dead silent even though large amounts of compression are being used and noticeable room noise is present.
