The Samson Opti C-Com Optical Compressor is a versatile and powerful audio processing tool designed for both professional and amateur musicians, audio engineers, and content creators. This compressor, with its sleek and compact design, offers a unique approach to audio compression by utilizing optical technology for a natural and transparent sound.
The Samson Opti C-Com Optical Compressor features a simple yet intuitive interface with three key controls: Input, Threshold, and Output. The Input control allows you to set the level of the signal entering the compressor, while the Threshold control determines the point at which the compression kicks in. The Output control allows you to adjust the final level of the compressed signal.
One of the standout features of the Opti C-Com is its optical compression circuitry, which delivers a smooth and natural sound with minimal distortion. The optical compression process works by using a light source and a photo-resistor to control the gain of the signal. This results in a more organic, dynamic sound compared to digital compression, which can sometimes sound harsh or artificial.
The Samson Opti C-Com Optical Compressor also offers a variety of settings and features to customize your sound. This includes an Attack control, which adjusts how quickly the compressor reacts to changes in the input level, and a Release control, which determines how long it takes for the compressor to return to its original gain setting after the signal drops below the threshold. The Opti C-Com also features a side-chain filter, which allows you to isolate specific frequencies for compression, and a ratio control, which adjusts the amount of compression applied to the signal.
In addition to its powerful compression capabilities, the Samson Opti C-Com Optical Compressor also includes a built-in limiter, which can prevent your signal from going over a certain level and causing distortion. The limiter can be activated manually or automatically, and its threshold and release controls can be adjusted to suit your needs.
The Samson Opti C-Com Optical Compressor is a versatile and powerful tool for anyone looking to add depth, clarity, and dynamics to their audio recordings. Its optical compression circuitry delivers a smooth, natural sound, while its intuitive interface and customizable settings make it easy to use for musicians and audio engineers of all levels. Whether you're recording vocals, mixing music, or creating podcasts, the Samson Opti C-Com Optical Compressor is a must-have addition to your audio arsenal.

The device shows no wear and functions just as it did when it I bought it. It has been stored in a drawer inside my office for about three years, away from heat, cold, and dust. The pictures are of the actual item, and are not stock photos. Unit is single channel, but units can be linked to proved stereo control.
This model is discontinued but can still be found on the Samson technologies site Samson tech. I aim for 100% satisfaction. There you can download a PDF of the manual to see all the specs.
I think the sound with the Samson is better, but the DPs is midi, which is more convenient for what i'm doing. I used this device for about a year before I went to DPs.
